How MitoQ grew 42% through a Shopify migration

Moving an established global ecommerce site from BigCommerce to Shopify meant changing platforms, URLs, analytics properties and international domain structures without losing years of organic equity. Intender worked alongside MitoQ and its development partners to plan the transition, protect priority pages and monitor the new sites closely after launch. Visibility held through the migration, authority transferred to the new URLs and growth resumed within the first stable month.

The Challenge

Move the Platform, Keep the Equity

MitoQ is a global health and wellness brand built around mitochondrial science. Its ecommerce ecosystem serves customers across the United States and international markets with product, science and educational content.

MitoQ was moving from BigCommerce to two Shopify instances for the United States and the rest of the world, supported by new regional subdomains.

The migration affected thousands of URLs, established rankings, international signals and measurement. A missed redirect, conflicting canonical or broken hreflang relationship could weaken the authority of an important page or send customers to the wrong regional experience.

The challenge was to make a complex global transition feel simple: preserve visibility, help Google understand the new structure and keep the experience smooth for customers and MitoQ’s internal team.

The Approach

Plan for the Handover

The strategy was built around continuity. Before launch, we needed to know which pages carried organic value, where each URL should move and how international versions would relate to one another.

That meant creating a reliable benchmark, protecting priority content and designing the redirect, canonical, hreflang, schema and sitemap logic before the old platform was switched off.

After launch, the focus shifted to fast detection and collaboration: monitor indexation and rankings, resolve technical issues quickly and give MitoQ practical guidance whenever a challenge arose.

Migration Mapping & Benchmarks

Intender crawled 2,721 legacy URLs and retained 678 existing source-to-target redirect mappings as part of the migration planning. Priority pages, backlinks, rankings and performance were benchmarked so the new site could be checked against a clear starting point.

Technical SEO Guidance

We reviewed site structure, content, metadata and page templates, and advised on redirects, canonicals, hreflang, schema, robots directives, XML sitemaps and analytics tracking across the US and international setup.

Post-Launch Monitoring & Support

Post-launch, we monitored Search Console signals, rankings, broken links and redirect behaviour as Google reindexed the new Shopify URLs. Separate regional audits supported the AU, Global, EU, UK and NZ sites, while regular collaboration helped the wider project team resolve issues without losing momentum.

Working with Intender during our migration from BigCommerce to Shopify was a great experience. Website migrations can be complex and stressful, but the team provided practical guidance, remained highly responsive throughout the project, and helped us navigate a number of SEO and technical considerations with confidence. What impressed us most was their collaborative approach and willingness to get involved whenever challenges arose. The migration was completed smoothly with minimal impact on our organic performance and customer experience, which was a fantastic outcome.
